Studio Family Session with a Tribute to New Motherhood
Sometimes babies have to stay in the hospital longer than other babies. And sometimes even after they finally get home, it takes a while for a family to settle in to their new lives. For this Boston family, a little time was needed before newborn portraits could be taken. So much so that Baby G went right past newborn portraits to three month portraits! Which worked out in the end because his gallery is lovely. Because he is lovely Because his parents are extremely lovely.Motherhood is hard sometimes. Especially in the beginning because your entire life got turned upside down. It takes a while to find yourself again. It takes a while because you're your old self but you're also your new self. A self you might not yet recognize. It takes a while...but most of us get there eventually. And usually we find these updated versions of ourselves in the most obvious of places: reflected back at us from the eyes of our children. Their joy is our joy. Their sadness is our sadness. They are of us and we are of them. This mama -- oh man. She is doing one hell of a job at motherhood. Love and light just pours out of her entire being. Baby G is one lucky little fella. It was a pleasure to see the love in this family and to capture it. Perhaps she, like many of us, felt a little lost for a while. But she certainly found her way back and is living life to its fullest. She is basking in the glow of motherhood and we are all privileged to witness this moment in her journey. Knock 'em dead, girlfriend. You're rocking it!This family had requested a simple studio shoot with just a white backdrop and nothing too crazy. Which I love. I got to just focus on their love for each other. At the end, we did pull out some props to do one shot of dad with Baby G. Dad is a police officer (the badge and hat have been blurred out to exclude exactly where he works) and they wanted a shot that saluted that part of their story. At three months old, he's too big to be placed inside or on top of the hat, and he's too little to wear it. So I went for a shot in Dad's arms. Imagine our delight when Baby G grabbed the badge and held it up! And I love the sweet smile on Dad's face here too. My favorite thing about Dad was how much he cracked up every time Baby G did anything funny. This family is just full of joy! They purchased a huge canvas and a slew of large and small prints for a wall gallery. It's going to be a wonderful showcase of their love and joy. Baby G will be so happy to grow up seeing these image and seeing how much he is loved. I'm happy to know Mama will have these images to look at every day and see how well motherhood suits her.-KerrySaveSaveSaveSaveSave
