madden family portraits

Right after taking Baby Madden's Christmas Card photos, the Maddens and I headed outside to take some family portraits.  I personally love the family portrait.  I think a lot of families focus on yearly portraits of the kids, which is great, but it's also nice to have a yearly portrait of everyone. Though it can be difficult (especially with little babies), they're really just incredibly happy photos that you'll treasure forever.  And as the years go by, you can see the changes and look back with fond memories.  I love them.  And I'm so happy the Maddens chose to do one. Hopefully they'll come back every year!

A simply gorgeous family.

I swear, they could do sidework as Gap models or something.

The front porch photos are so "Americana" to me; the young-married-couple-with-their-baby-and-their-home.  Takes us back to the simple things; family and that wonderful sense of home.  Love it.

The Maddens did a great job of matching but not matching when it came to choosing their clothes.  Sometimes people look too matched in photos; I like the balance they have of different colors and different stripes, but stripes none-the-less.  When planning your own family photoshoot (or engagement shoot or sibling shoot), consider matching clothes in a way that compliment each other but don't match completely.  This makes for a more interesting photo.  Or, match your colors somewhat if you know your background will be totally different (ie, wear blues or whites for a grassy photoshoot, etc).

Lots of love.  That's what I love about the family portrait.  Lots of love.
