Rosie Mae is 18 Months Old!

Every month I take a photo of our daughter on her monthly birthday.  Here she is at eighteen months:

This month was the hardest month we've EVER had when it came to narrowing down our choices.  Usually when I present my top contenders to Mike, there are 10, maybe 15 options for him and I to whittle it down from.  This time, I presented Mike with 40 images.  Yeesh.  That was after I already narrowed it down from images of our afternoon at Honey Pot Hill Apple Orchards; I only flagged images that were of JUST Rosie Mae, had her mostly to one side so we had room for the text, and were generally interesting shots.  Even with all these constraints, I still brought 40 to the table.  So, Mike and I sat and went through each picture just like I do with my clients.  It was actually fun to be on the other side of it! :)

As has become tradition in these posts, here are the 8 top runners-up for this month:

Rosie Mae has been rocking ponytails quite often lately.  So I felt like we should at least include one that showcased them.  Since it was a cold and rainy day, she was in the hood 90% of the time.  This is on of the only shots of her without it.

When struggling to narrow down our choices, Mike mentioned that his goal each month is to pick a photo where she looks older than the month before.  While we had many cute options of her sitting and eating an apple or making a funny face, he wanted something that showed her up, walking, and full of intention.  Once he pointed this criteria to me, I thought it was genius.  So, this shot below was a top runner up because she's so busy with the apples.

I'm madly in love with this shot, even though she's not in focus.  I vetoed it due to the poor focus but I'm including it anyway because I love her expression in it.  This was Mike's other major contender because she's actually picking an apple... on her own... being all old.  It eventually got bumped for the winner because you can't see much of her face.  We picked the winner because she's walking through the apple tree with a smile on her face, and looks like some sort of woodland fairy while doing it.  We couldn't help but love that image. This image below was probably my most favorite other than the winner.  Mike had just said, "Rosie Mae, don't eat the grass."  She gave me this look while eating the grass anyway.  Sassy little thing. This was one of my other favorites. And then there's this:This last one was also a high, high contender, but it looked an awful lot like the image at the top of this page with another little blonde cherub in an irish knit sweater (taken at the same orchard no less!), so, we went with something a little different. So there you have it!  The hardest month so far.  Which one would you have picked???

Also, 18 months = a year and a half.

A year and a half.
