Rosie Mae is 20 Months Old!

Every month, I take a photo of our daughter on her monthly birthday.  Here she is at 20 months:

Irish-Eyes-Photography-Rosie-Mae-20-01It had been a long day.  Rosie Mae and I had a lot to do in the morning, and then suddenly it was already time for her nap.  She woke up in the evening.  It was dark.  She was in her pj's.  We were getting ready to have dinner.  Still, I couldn't ruin my record of always getting a shot of her on her monthly birthday.  So, pj's and playing on the 2nd floor of our home is how it went down.  Since the whole idea of this second year is to be candid, that was fine by me!  In the winning shot above, she's playing in her room with some of her favorite books.  I was standing above her on her bed and shooting down.  She happened to look up at me and there was the shot.  Not terribly candid, but certainly far from posed.

Here are some of the runner's up for this month:

This used to be her room.  Now it's getting prepared to be her brother's.  She loves pulling out his newborn hats from one of the baskets you see behind her.  His quilt, finally ready for his arrival, lays over his crib.  Everything's ready for Conor to get here.  Even his big sister.

Mike LOVES this photo.  We grappled with it being the winner for this month, but ultimately decided to pick something else.  We love that the winning photo takes place in her room.  She'll have plenty of time to share the stage with Conor for the rest of her life.  Still, this photo is kind of hilarious.  Mike says it's her "stern librarian" headshot.

Irish-Eyes-Photography-Rosie-Mae-20-03Ever the climber these days, she loves sitting on the ottoman in the nursery and reading.Irish-Eyes-Photography-Rosie-Mae-20-04And getting into things.  Sometimes, it's trouble.  Other times it's baskets.Irish-Eyes-Photography-Rosie-Mae-20-05This last one was also a huge contender.  We only chose the other one because she's not staring blankly at the camera like she is here.  But I love it.  I was just standing above her (not on the bed) while she wiggled around like a fool below.  Then she looked up at me mid-wiggle and I grabbed this shot.  I love it.Irish-Eyes-Photography-Rosie-Mae-20-06It was a low key monthly shoot this time, but I love it.  I love the shadows of the evening lighting in our otherwise very bright and sunny home.  I love that it's a glimpse into what it's like to hang out with us after a nap and before dinner.  I love that this whole routine will probably be changing very soon and we've managed to capture it in it's slow, sleepy glory.

Speaking of, it's about that time right now.  She's waking up from her nap and ready for me to come play.  I relish every single one of these moments these days.  Both the moments of routine play and activity, and those of nap time; who knows when (if!) both kids will nap simultaneously so I can sit here and wax poetic about it!

Most likely, by the time Rosie Mae's 21st birthday photo is posted, she will be a big sister.  Maybe not (he is due two days later), but just...maybe.  Our whole worlds are going to change so much (for the better!) and it's crazy to think I'll have a whole new person to do these posts about.

Hope you enjoyed this one!
